Blackstone Edge
Blackstone Edge wind farm received planning consent from Barnsley Council in May 2009.
The scheme will comprise three wind turbines sited approximately 15km to the west of Barnsley, 7km south-east of Holmfirth and approximately 1.5km to the north-east of the village of Crow Edge. The three wind turbines will have a maximum hub height of 60m and a maximum tip height of 101m from ground to blade tip.
The turbines will be located within the Southern Yorkshire Pennine Fringe open landscape designation, which has a demonstrated capacity for wind farm development. The wind farm will generally be visible from parts of the open, upland farmland and neighbouring moorland.
An estimate of the on-site wind speed of 8.09m/sec at 60m above ground level has been made using 12 months of on-site wind data from a mast located at OSGB co-ordinates 419556, 405205, the data having been correlated against a reference met station at Church Fenton.
The Environmental Statement demonstrates that the site has suitable highway access and is sufficient distance from residential properties to protect residential amenity. No substantive objections from statutory consultees were raised to the development.
Infinis is currently progressing tendering for the project with a view to having the site under construction in early 2012. We expect the wind farm to be operational by autumn 2012.
