Greengairs

In January 2007 Infinis applied to North Lanarkshire Council for planning permission to construct and operate a wind farm at Greengairs approximately 5km north-east of Airdrie, North Lanarkshire.

North Lanarkshire Council has resolved to grant planning permission subject to conditions and completion of a planning legal agreement.

The Greengairs wind farm proposal comprises nine turbines with a ground to blade tip height of 125m. The maximum generating capacity of the proposal is 27MW. Other items that would form part of the wind farm would be a meteorological mast, crane hardstanding beside each wind turbine, electrical substation and control building and access tracks.

It is estimated that the Greengairs wind farm could generate the equivalent of the annual average electricity use of around 14,000 UK households, based on an average capacity factor of 26.9%*.

A copy of the full application is available for public viewing at North Lanarkshire Council offices, Kildonan Street, Coatbridge, ML5 3LN, application reference 07/00172/FUL. A Non-Technical Summary of the Environmental Statement can be accessed below. If you would like to receive additional information on the development of Greengairs wind farm, please contact Infinis at: greengairswindfarm@infinis.com. Alternatively our general contact details can be found above.

* This calculation is based on the UK average capacity factor of 26.9% (taken from Table 7.4 in the Digest of UK Energy Statistics 2010, DUKES, 2010, for data in 2009) and an average UK household electricity consumption in 2009 of 4,423kWh (Digest of UK Energy Statistics 2010) which leads to a calculation of the equivalent electricity consumption of 14,000 households (rounded down to the nearest 500 households). It should be noted that the equivalent household electricity consumption calculated will vary depending on site wind speeds and actual household electricity consumption. Download the Digest of UK Energy Statistics 2010 - PDF 6.8MB.
