Hill of Fishrie

Infinis is currently progressing a proposal for the Hill of Fishrie wind farm which would be situated at Hill of Fishrie, an elevated moorland area just north of the A98 and approximately 3km north of Crudie.

Hill of Fishrie has been selected as a suitable site because it has a number of attributes which make it an excellent site for a wind farm whilst also having minimal environmental effects. These attributes include its exposed location with high wind speeds, proximity to a potential grid connection point and lack of international or national designations covering the site.

The environmental studies for this site have now been completed and a planning application was lodged in June 2011 with Aberdeenshire Council. The application seeks consent for a 5 turbine scheme with a tip height of 100m and reflects a reduction in the scale and number of turbines from the indicative scoping scheme in response to the findings of the environmental studies. It is estimated that a scheme of this size could generate the equivalent of the annual average electricity use of around 6,000 UK households, based on an average capacity factor of 26.9%*.

If you are interested in getting involved in the development of this proposal, whether as a supporter or a potential contractor, you can contact us at: hilloffishriewindfarm@infinis.com. Alternatively our general contact details can be found above.

Copies of the documentation relating to the public consultations can be accessed below.

A copy of the full application is available for public viewing at Crudie Primary School and New Pitsligo Library. Alternatively documentation can be reviewed through Aberdeenshire Council's planning portal. A copy of the Non-Technical Summary can be accessed below.

* This calculation is based on the UK average capacity factor of 26.9% (taken from Table 7.4 in the Digest of UK Energy Statistics 2010, DUKES, 2010, for data in 2009) and an average UK household electricity consumption in 2009 of 4,423kWh (Digest of UK Energy Statistics 2010) which leads to a calculation of the equivalent electricity consumption of 6,000 households (rounded down to the nearest 500 households). It should be noted that the equivalent household electricity consumption calculated will vary depending on site wind speeds and actual household electricity consumption. Download the Digest of UK Energy Statistics 2010 - PDF 6.8MB.
