Mark Farm
IInfinis launched a proposal for a wind farm at Mark Farm, Creetown, Dumfries & Galloway at the March 2010 meeting of Kirkmabreck Community Council in Creetown. A scoping report was submitted in April 2010 to Dumfries & Galloway Council. A copy of the scoping report (which includes the site location and draft turbine layout) can be accessed below.
The proposed site lies approximately 4km north-east of Creetown and 12km south-east of Newton Stewart. It is approximately 249 hectares in area and is mainly hill grazing land. The wind farm would comprise up to 11 turbines and associated infrastructure including site roads, a temporary construction compound, an electrical substation building and a permanent wind monitoring mast. Turbines would have a maximum height to blade tip of 110m.
Comments were received via the scoping process from various bodies including SEPA, Scottish Natural Heritage, Dumfries & Galloway Council and Historic Scotland. Public consultation exhibitions are planned for early summer 2012 which will be widely publicised in the local press and via community councils. Comments from scoping and consultation will be assessed before deciding on a final layout for the site. An environmental impact assessment will then be undertaken on the final layout, with the results reported in an environmental statement to be submitted with planning application to Dumfries & Galloway Council.
A temporary wind monitoring mast was erected at the site in November 2010. The wind data gathered will also aid the site design process.
Public consultation will continue both before and after submission of the planning application. The planning application is likely to be submitted in the first quarter of 2013.
