No two days are the same in this job. You’ll be on the move a lot, providing planned maintenance support and responding to equipment breakdowns across the North-West. We need you to service, diagnose and repair high voltage and low voltage electrical equipment – including transformers, switchgear, control panels, protection systems and associated plant. You’ll also monitor equipment to spot early warning signs and avoid machine breakdowns.

To get the job done quickly and efficiently, you will build positive relationships with our 24/7 logistics centre and field-based teams. You’ll also manage contractors, meet and greet people on site and make sure work is delivered safely and precisely.

Main duties

  • Carry out servicing, fault finding and repairing of electrical high voltage and low voltage systems associated with electrical generation equipment, with the aid of specialist contractors where needed - including transformers, switchgear, control panels, protection systems and associated plant
  • Receive job instructions from the logistics team, report location and job updates
  • Monitor equipment, spot early warning signs and factors that could lead to equipment failure
  • Greet electrical contractors on-site, complete site inductions and ensure all safety procedures and documents are fully in order
  • Monitor contractor work relating to repair of high voltage and low voltage systems
  • Assist the rebuild team to safely isolate and disconnect alternators before engine removal.

Basic qualifications

  • Electrical engineering technical qualification essential (BTEC ONC/HNC, NVQ level 3 or equivalent), plus a working knowledge of electrical generators
  • Working knowledge of BS7671, 18th edition Electrical Installation Regulations and associated legislative standards
  • Knowledge and experience of fault finding and working from electrical drawings
  • Flexible approach to work – willing to travel regularly and put in extra hours when needed
  • Industrial electrical maintenance experience preferred – such as power generation, manufacturing, distribution, or steel
