East region covers Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham, Sheffield, Wakefield and Leeds - plus occasional travel to Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire

As a Field Service Engineer in the East Team, you will report to the Technical Manager and assist in supervising Field Service Technicians. This includes providing advanced technical support and training on specific tasks or short-term projects, such as field-based overhauls, major repairs and complex fault finding.

Main duties

  • Running and supervising field-based overhauls, repairs and fault-finding tasks
  • Identifying failures against agreed company technical standards, and raising work orders to allow the effective and efficient resolution of these issues
  • Supporting scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks as required on a fleet of LFG, CMM and PR generation sets, gas plants and BOP
  • Delivery of agreed operational performance targets including, but not limited to, Mean Time Between Breakdowns (MTBB) for individual sites
  • Offering technical support, training and advice to field service technicians as required
  • Monitoring and managing the work of contractors who are attending the repair of power generation equipment, gas process plant and BOP
  • Ensuring all equipment and processes comply with legislation, permits and the company’s HSQE requirements and that tools, equipment and vehicles are maintained in a safe, clean and functional condition
  • Ensuring all costs are controlled in-line with budget and taking advantage of any opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency as authorised
  • Monitoring of equipment, both physically and by using Scada, InSITE or other available systems to identify early warning signs of operational problems and/or potential breakdowns and raising appropriate tasks in Maximo
  • Ensuring good communications at all levels within the team and wider business, as well as with the landowners on whose sites we generate power / manage compliance and with the regulators, such as the Environment Agency
  • Establishing equipment strategies which maximise environmental compliance, minimise downtime and maximise revenue
  • Assisting in the management of stores such that a suitable and comprehensive inventory of stock is maintained and regularly reviewed to cover operational requirements
  • Maintaining a culture of best practice within the Company by attending training courses (both internal and external) and supporting broader operational projects as and when appropriate
  • Ensuring you are qualified and trained for the tasks you undertake and that you comply with the Company’s procedures, HSQE policies and relevant legislation

Skills and experience

  • Reciprocating gas engine experience (Jenbacher, Caterpillar and MWM would be an advantage)
  • Strong fault-finding skills on electrical and mechanical systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills whilst using self-initiative to find solutions
  • Previous experience in a field service role with reciprocating engines or generators
  • Previous experience in stripping and repairing reciprocating engines down to component level
